Hosted Email and SharePoint for Non-Profit

​A critical community non-profit needed a way to keep their aging applications running in an affordable way, while still providing reliable and secure email, file sharing, and collaboration.  Microsoft Business Productivity Online Suite (BPOS) gave them more functionality and saved them hundreds of dollars a month.

​Avalon was experiencing email service interruption when their aging Exchange Server began to crash with increasing frequency.  Service costs for IT technical support were stretching an already tight budget.  Avalon needed a reliable, inexpensive email infrastructure with a better way to share files.

Vision

Eastridge worked with Avalon to illustrate how Microsoft Business Productivity Online Services (BPOS) could give them reliable email with additional features such as Outlook Web Access, Office Communicator,  SharePoint Online, and Live Meeting.  The Avalon file share will be moved to SharePoint Online, while Microsoft Live Meeting will be used for online meetings or recorded training sessions for volunteers.

Architecture

Migration was done over a weekend with minimal impact to the user community.  Training was conducted via short video recordings that presented the overall solution as well as tips and tricks for Outlook integration, SharePoint usage, and Instant Messaging features.

​Today Avalon has a secure and reliable messaging, file share, and collaboration platform that is saving more than $500/month in reduced server, software, support, and online virus/spam filtering fees.  The non-profit pricing for the entire BPOS Suite is $4 per user - a substantial bargain for online Exchange, SharePoint, Office Communicator, and Live Meeting.
