Custom iPad Integration

iPad use is growing dramatically within medium and enterprise customers.  IT needs to be able to serve up content in a controlled manner, while still allowing end users to have an intuitive tablet based experience.  Eastridge created a unique solution that leverages the  features of SharePoint PowerPoint slide libraries with the intuitive ease and portability of an iPad or HTML compliant slate device.

 Business Need

A financial services firm targeting high net-worth customers needed a way to standardize their advisor's pitch books on an iPad while still allowing tweaks and customizations by the end user.  Standard boiler-plate language related to investment options and risks changed frequently, and they had no way of making sure that all proposals going out to customers were up to date.

 Solution

Vision

Eastridge proposed a solution that would run on iPads, web browsers, and future Windows Slate hardware.  The backend server would take advantage of an existing SharePoint PowerPoint slide library, with the use of standardized PowerPoint templates that acted us the main proposal shells.  Users would also have the ability to customize basic templates and store them on the server for future use or customization.

Architecture

Eastridge was able to utilize the customer's existing SharePoint 2010 installation with some minor configuration of the SharePoint Slide Library for PowerPoint.  The actual application for iPad was built on a Beta version of the jQuery Mobile platform.  This allowed the Eastridge design team to build a rich graphical interface that was familiar to iPad and Tablet users, but also serve up content in Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.

 Benefits

The customer now can control critical legal and financial information that is presented to prospective customers, while still allowing their field personnel to easily customize presentations on their iPads and save customizations or email presentations as appropriate.
