Project Collaboration Portal

Project collaboration within this large insurance company's technology group was suffering due to decentralized systems and little or no management reporting or control of processes.  Eastridge architected a centralized document and project collaboration portal based on SharePoint with addition customization for stringent security requirements.

 Business Need

A large health insurance provider engaged Eastridge Technology  to assist them in architecting, implementation, and support for an intranet portal used to manage multiple projects across the enterprise based on SharePoint 2007 technology.  The portal was initially targeted for project management use within the technology group for approximately 2,000 users.

The major challenge for this portal construction related to specialized security constraints to satisfy requirements of the US Military (DoD DISA STIGs).

 Solution

Vision

Eastridge collaborated with the insurer's technical staff to architect a custom SharePoint solution to meet the needs of their project teams. This included storage of documents of various types, rapid search, and very distinct security requirements.

Architecture

This solution was built using a 4x1x2 SharePoint farm with multiple load balanced web front ends, single application and index servers, and a clustered SQL Server 2005 back end.  Custom branding and event handlers were deployed to automate project site creation and document management.

In the final phase of deployment heavy testing, configuration, and analysis were done to lock down network traffic as well as the operating system to meet strict DoD DISA STIG requirements.

 Benefits

This application replaced a mixed  decentralized system consisting of Exchange shared folders, calendars, file shares (unsecured), and email chains.  Since this project's official kick off more than 1,000 project teams have utilized the solution with many more business groups wanting in on this solution.

The end SharePoint portal solution brought the entire project management process into a single source which allowed secure and auditable collaboration across the entire technology group.
